MLB Question of the day: Part 3

19 Nov

We are already deep into the free agency season and yet still we have had few answers as to where players will end up this off-season. With plenty of big fish on the market, lets take a look at one of the most prized players on the market Prince Fielder.

Prince Fielder

3) Where will Prince Fielder end up?

On paper Prince Fielder should have higher value then anyone on the market. I know I know, what about Albert Pujols. Well Consider this Prince Fielder’s offensive line from last year was .299, 38 HR, 120 RBI compare that to Pujols’ .299, 37 HR, 99 RBI and the fact that Fielder is 4 years younger than Pujols and this looks like an obvious choice.

However the fact of the matter is that Fielder is by definition overweight and for any potential suitors that may be something they want to consider long and hard before offering him a long term deal. Yes, Fielder is quite productive right now, as an overweight 27 year old but 4-5 years down the road you have to figure this may catch up to him.

That being said I think there will still be plenty of suitors willing to throw lots of zeros at the most royal player in baseball. With a name like Prince Fielder, you would think that the Kansas City Royals would have him high on their list.  Unfortunately for the Royals they never have money period.

In all seriousness though the most likely teams to pick up the hefty tab on Fielder will be in California. The Angels and the Giants both could use some serious offensive help and they both do not have a real potent option at first base.

If not the Angels or the Giants, then look to the Rangers, Mariners or Marlins who have shown that they are really looking to make a splash this off season.
